When you or someone you love hears the words “you have cancer”... It’s one of the darkest moments in your life. At Light The Night, it is our aim to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures. Light The Night is a series of fundraising campaigns benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) funding of research to find blood cancer cures. We bring hope instead of despair by working to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. We bring communities together to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those we have lost. We are taking steps to end cancer. WE LIGHT THE NIGHT. LI2DAY- TOP BREAST CANCER FUNDRAISER

AFAC's objectives to bring awareness, resources and hope to the community also includes featuring the tremendous spirit behind local fundraiser projects and events. One of the many headliners of our upcoming Awareness News series is Mrs. Ginny Salerno, Founder and Executive Director of LI2DAY (www.li2daywalk.org) whose personal life’s work is to establish the (now) massive undertaking of producing breast cancer walks on Long Island. In 2003, Ginny returned from a national breast cancer walk and was inspired to bring a multi-day walk to Long Island where 100% of the funds raised by walkers would stay on Long Island to be distributed by grassroots breast cancer service & support organizations. With sheer determination, family, friends and the support from local politicians and businesses, the inaugural LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk took place in Suffolk County in June of 2004 and raised $291,000. Now into its 14th year, local grassroots organizations from South Nassau and Manhasset to Montauk Point are receiving funds to fight breast cancer and other women’s cancers. Over $6 million dollars has been raised in 14 years.
